Fifteen years ago I moved to paradise. Packed up my laptop (it only weighed 14 lbs.), briefcase, and armed with years of experience in marketing and sales, I was excited to help my brother achieve a dream — take his utility-services helicopter business from a one-man show to the next level. Actually the next level was just the beginning. And over the following ten years, we worked for several government agencies and new clients; grew from one aircraft to a fleet of seven; offered safe service; and enjoyed our reputation and monetary reward.

In the background, I maintained a keen interest in Maui real estate — as a homeowner as well as an investment opportunity. This beautiful island had become my home. I studied, analyzed and lived in the Upcountry area, South Maui, and ultimately planted roots in West Maui — my favorite spot where my husband and I reside.

Real estate began to take up more of my time so I turned it from "just-about-me-and-my-goals" into a successful career. It was an honor to be awarded the Maui Aloha ‘Aina Outstanding Newcomer Award in 2004. Subsequently, I've earned more designations — Graduate of the Realtor's Institute, Accredited Buyers Representative, and Certified Residential Specialist. Quite proudly, I'm a Broker and affiliated with the Keller Williams franchise headquartered in Maui. Those initials after my name — the results of education, training, and financial success.

Inside that financial success is a lot of work. I work with clients who want to achieve a dream: to own a piece of the rock — the best one on the planet in my opinion. They expect expertise, product knowledge, market trend analysis, negotiating skills, list of vendors, even advice on where to eat. So I use all my resources — my MBA from Pepperdine, inventory knowledge, trained mediator skills, and my rolodex — and find those Best Buys on Maui.

• SchoolsThere are a number of public and privately-owned educational facilities on Maui. Many schools now have their own websites and encourage you to communicate with them regarding their unique programs, after-school activities, parent organizations, and school calendar. Our island's newest private school is West Maui Preparatory Academy (www.mauiprep.org).
